I’m not happy with the last one at all, but I really don’t like cubism, so mimicking the style was a little impossible.
Project 3: Panels 1 – 3 + Story
•November 10, 2009 • Leave a CommentAkoto’s last adventure left hunters on her trail. After resettling with her den, the hunters discover them and separate them. Akoto manages to escape, but witnessed the capture of her siblings and the death of her mother. She must live alone now, and struggle with grief and guilt.
Panel 1 is just black and white, and focuses on ‘Order’. Akoto, her mother, and her three siblings are having a normal day, playing around in the den.
Panel 2 uses expressive line, and focuses on ‘Chaos’. A bullet shot straight into the den kills their mother, and the kits escape in a hurry, only to be caught by the hunters who shot the bullet.
Panel 3 is going to use metallics, and will focus on ‘Order’. Hunters will have captured Akoto’s siblings and the image will show the back of a truck with the kits in cages.
Panel 4 is going to use florescent pigments and will focus on ‘Chaos’. The image will be a simple close up of Akoto crying. There will be no background, and will focus instead on the intense colors on her.
Panel 5 is going to use transparency and will combine order and chaos. The image will be of Akoto walking by herself in the desert. Layers will overlap, and the background will be more in the style of cubism to further isolate Akoto.

For the second panel, the faint white is for helping me in composition, and will be removed for the final. Obviously, Panel 2 is also incomplete.

Here is the 200 word story/description of my character, Akoto.
…
Fennec fox pups are very curious creatures. They love to explore and discover new things around their environment … which can be very difficult to do, as they live in the Sahara desert. For their first year, the mother sticks very close to them, not letting them wander too far away from the den.
Akoto however, is different. She is twice as explorative as normal pups, and three times more susceptible to attracting trouble. It is very hard for her to pay attention to one thing for more than a few minutes. If she were human, she would most likely be diagnosed with ADD. Akoto also enjoys practicing her hunting skills, chasing any small thing that moves, including her den mates’ tails.
One day a lizard becomes her prey. However, it is much quicker than she is, and she ends up chasing it far away from her den. When she finally catches it, she realizes she has become lost. Akoto becomes at first excited about the new opportunity to explore, but soon realizes the dangers of being away from home.
After narrowly escaping human hunters, her mother finds her and gives her a heavy scolding, but is overall happy to have found her daughter. Akoto is happy too, and learns to be more careful.
